PGM-83


PGM-83 served South Vietnam and the Philippines.

PGM-71 Class Motor Gunboat:

  • Laid down as PGM-83 by Marinette Marine, Manitowoc, WI
  • Launched 8 March 1966
  • Delivered 30 September 1967, transferred to South Vietnam and named Hon Troc (HQ 618) under the U.S. military assistance program; Escaped to the Philippines after the fall of South Vietnam in 1975
  • Transferred to the Philippines in November 1975 and renamed BRP Basilan (PG 60)
  • Struck from the Philippine Navy list in 1989
  • Scrapped in 1991.

  • Displacement 130 t.
  • Length 101'
  • Beam 22'
  • Draft 6' 8"
  • Speed 18 kts.
  • Armament: One 40mm mount, two twin 20mm mounts and two .50 cal. machine guns
  • Propulsion: Two 975bhp MB820 Mercedes Benz diesel engines/eight 250bhp General Motors 6-71 diesel engines, two shafts.
