Tacoma (PG-92)


Tacoma served the Navies of the United States and Colombia

Asheville Class Patrol Gunboat:

  • The fourth Tacoma was laid down 24 July 1967 by the Tacoma Boatbuilding Co., Tacoma, WA
  • Launched 13 April 1968
  • Commissioned USS Tacoma (PG-92), 14 July 1969
  • Decommissioned 1 May 1983
  • Struck from the Naval Register 4 December 1995
  • Transferred to Colombia and renamed ARC Quitasueño (Sleepless) - (P 112)
  • Decommissioned and transferred to the Colombian Customs Service
  • Fate unknown.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 247 t.
  • Length 165'
  • Beam 24'
  • Speed 37.5 kts.
  • Complement 24
  • Armament: One 3"/50 gun mount, one 40mm gun mount and two twin .50 cal. machine guns
  • Propulsion: CODOG (Combination Diesel or Gas Turbine) two 750hp Cummins VT12-875 diesel engines, one General Electric model 7 LM 1500 gas turbine engine, two controllable pitch propellers,
    13,300shp. The CODOG system allows for diesel propulsion up to about 12-14 knots and marine gas turbine propulsion for speeds in excess of 35 knots.
