Welch served the United State Navy and the Colombian Coast Guard

Asheville Class Motor Gunboat:

  • The second Welch was laid down 8 May 1967 at Peterson Builders, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin
  • Launched 25 July 1968
  • Commissioned USS Welch (PG-93), 8 September 1969 at Boston, MA
  • Decommissioned 20 September 1981 at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Norfolk, VA
  • Struck from the Naval Register 12 April 1995
  • Transferred to the Colombian Coast Guard and renamed Albuquerque (P 111)
  • Fate unknown.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 247 t.
  • Length 165'
  • Beam 24'
  • Draft 5'
  • Speed 37.5 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 3"/50 gun mount, one 40mm gun mount and two twin .50 cal. machine guns
  • Propulsion: Combined diesel and gas turbime (CODAG), two diesel engines and one General Electric LM1500 gas turbines, two shafts.
