William A. McKenney (ID 2902)


Freighter: Built in 1916 by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry-dock Co., Newport News, VA; Acquired by the Navy 5 June 1918 and commissioned USS William A. McKenney (ID 2902) the same day; Decommissioned 31 January 1919 at New York, struck from the Navy list and transferred to the United States Shipping Board for return to her owners; Sold in the mid-1920s to the Mystic Steamship Co of Boston, MA; Sold in the late 1930s to the Koopers Coal Co. of Pittsburg, PA; Shelled, torpeoded and sunk 4 October 1942 by the U-175 off British Guiana.

Specifications: Displacement 12,800 t.; Length 410' 6"; Beam 55' 1"; Draft 26' 5"; Speed unknown; Complement 62; Armament one 5" and one 3".
