  • Built by Odense Staalskibsvaerft A/S, Lindo, Denmark, as MV Emilie Maersk in 1979
  • Acquired by the Navy under a long-term charter in 1984
  • Converted by Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point, MD.
  • Launched in 1985
  • Placed in service under the direction of the Military Sealift Command (MSC) as MV 1ST LT Alex Bonnyman (AK-3003), 26 September 1985, operated by Maersk Line Ltd.
  • MV 1ST LT Alex Bonnyman (AK-3003) is one of the Military Sealift Command's seventeen Container & Roll-on/Roll-off Ships and is part of the 33 ships in the Prepositioning Program.
  • MV1ST LT Alex Bonnyman (AK-3003) is assigned to Maritime Prepositioning Ship Squadron Three. She carries equipment to support a US Marine Corps Expeditionary Brigade
