  • Laid down, 16 April 1945, as MV Spindle Eye, a Maritime Commission type (C1-M-AV1) hull under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 2381) at Kaiser Cargo Inc., Richmond, CA.
  • Launched, 25 May 1945
  • Delivered to Lykes Bros. Steamship Co. 9 July 1945
  • Chartered by the War Department, 26 July 1945, Commissioned USAT Spindle Eye
  • Renamed USAT Sgt. Curtis F. Shoup in late-1947
  • Returned to the Maritime Commission, 25 January 1950 for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Olympia, WA. Group
  • Transferred to the US Navy and assigned to the Military Sea Transportation Service (MSTS), 16 January 1963
  • Placed in service as USNS Sgt. Curtis F. Shoup (T-AG-175), 1 March 1963
  • Converted for service as a helicopter freighter at Willamette Iron & Steel in Portland, OR.
  • Placed out of service, 20 December 1969
  • Returned to the Maritime Administration, 22 January 1970, for lay up in the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Suisun Bay, Benecia, CA.
  • Struck from the Naval Register, 28 April 1970
  • Final Disposition, sold for scrapping , 9 May 1973, to John Liu, Washington, D.C.

    Namesake
    SSGT Curtis F. Shoup - (January 11, 1921 – January 7, 1945) received the Medal of Honor for acts of bravery near Tillet in Belgium (now a deelgemeente of Sainte-Ode) on January 7, 1945. He was a graduate of Oswego High School in Oswego, New York. He is buried in North Scriba Union Cemetery in Scriba, New Yor.k.
    SSGT Shoup was killed in action. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army in Company I, 346th Infantry, 87th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on January 7, 1945 near Tillet, Belgium.
