  • Launched, 23 September 1972
  • Delivered for commercial service, 16 March 1973 to Lykes Bros Steamship Co.
  • Purchased from Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., 12 September 1986, by the US Department of Transportation, Maritime Administration
  • Renamed SS Cape Mohican
  • Assigned to MARAD Ready Reserve Force, (RRF) as SS Cape Mohican (AKR-5065)
  • SS Cape Mohican (AKR-5065) is one of the Military Sealift Command's (MSC) 3 Heavy Lift Barge Carriers and one of the 63 ships of the Sealift Program Office.
  • SS Cape Mohican is laid up as part of the National Defense Reserve Fleet in a layberth at Alameda, CA. in ROS-5 status
  • SS Cape Mohican departed her layberth at Oakland, CA., 9 July 2021, under tow by the Foss tug Denise Foss enroute to the National Defense Reserve Fleet, Beaumont, TX. ETA Beaumont early August.

    Cape Mohican 1699k SS Cape Mohican (AKR-5065) carries Navy Lighterage, Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC), and Navy Roll-on Roll-off Discharge Facility (RRDF) for Joint Logistics Over-The-Shore (JLOTS) 2008, 25 June 2008). JLOTS 2008 will establish command and control of Army and Navy units, construct a Life Support Area (LSA), conduct force protection operations, execute an in-stream of shipping from a sea echelon area, employ Offshore Petroleum Discharge System (OPDS), retrograde and safely redeploy allocated forces.
