USS Whidbey Island (LSD-41)


CDR. Christopher K Wells

CDR Wells was born and raised in Colquitt, GA. He received his commission from the United States Naval Academy in May 1996.

His first tour was with MCM Rotational Crew Echo onboard USS Chief (MCM 14) and USS Ardent (MCM 12) where he served as DCA, First Lieutenant, Electrical Officer, and Auxiliaries Officer. He deployed and participated in Operation Desert Fox and Operation Southern Watch in the Northern Arabian Gulf. He then transferred to USS Lake Erie (CG 70) where he served as Fire Control Officer. While onboard Lake Erie, LCDR Wells conducted Theater Ballistic Missile Defense testing including the first successful sea-based intercept of an exoatmospheric missile. His next tour was with the Naval Postgraduate School where he received his JPME Phase 1 and M.S. in Systems Engineering and Analysis in December 2003.

After Department Head School, CDR Wells reported for duty to USS Tarawa (LHA-1) as Combat Systems Officer in August 2004. While onboard Tarawa, CDR Wells deployed to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and humanitarian relief efforts following earthquakes in Pakistan.

CDR Wells transferred and reported for duty as Weapons and Force Protection Officer to Destroyer Squadron Fifteen in February 2006. Following this tour, CDR Wells reported for duty as Fleet Training and TLAM Officer to the Seventh Fleet staff in September 2007. CDR Wells reported to the Joint IED Defeat Organization as an Operations Research/Systems Analyst and Initiative Evaluation Branch Chief in April 2009. During this tour, CDR Wells lead Joint Initiative Evaluation Teams in assessing Counter-IED equipment, tactics, techniques, and procedures.

CDR Wells has various personal and unit awards including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, four Navy Commendation Medals and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
