USS Rushmore (LSD-47)



CDR. James T. Robinson USN

CDR Tate Robinson is a native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. After graduating from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island in 1991, he attended the University of Memphis where he graduated with a Mathematics degree and received his commission in May 1996.

His first tour of duty was aboard USS CLEVELAND (LPD 7), where he served as Propulsion One Division Officer. In January 1999, CDR Robinson reported to the Nuclear Power Training Command in Charleston, South Carolina and graduated at the top of his class at Nuclear Power Training Unit, Ballston Spa, New York.

In March 2000, CDR Robinson reported to USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) and served as the Repair Officer. After 9/11, the ENTERPRISE Strike Group was the first Strike Group on station and participated in the opening air strikes of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. During this tour, he completed his qualification as a Nuclear Engineer Officer.

In January 2003, CDR Robinson reported to USS COWPENS (CG 63) where he served first as the Weapons Control Officer before fleeting up to Combat Systems Officer. During this tour, COWPENS participated in the opening Tomahawk strikes of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.

In November 2005, CDR Robinson reported to USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) as the Reactor Electrical Assistant, and completed RONALD REAGAN’s maiden deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf. In January 2008 he was selected to attend the Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC). While assigned to CGSC, he earned a Master’s Degree in Military Arts and Science (Military History).

He served as Executive Officer aboard USS GREEN BAY (LPD 20) from November, 2011 to November, 2012, completing an eight month Planned Maintenance Availability and re-deploying to the 5th Fleet AOR, eleven and half months after her last deployment.

CDR Robinson’s tour ashore was as the Deputy Officer-in-Charge of the Surface Nuclear Propulsion Mobile Training Team on the Commander, Naval Air Forces staff.

CDR Robinson’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (Two Awards), Navy Commendation Medal (Three Awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and service awards.
