"CPO PANTRY AND MESS"

"The Chief Petty Officers were senior enlisted men and, as such, had their own mess. Food was not prepared here, but was made in the galley one deck below and brought up via dumbwaiters. Unlike the officers, who also had their own ward room and pantry, the CPO's were not served by mess stewards. They had to go through the Chow Line like the rest of the enlisted men."
