USS Emory S. Land (AS-39)



CAPT. Douglas A. Bradley, USN
Commanding Officer

A native of Baltimore, MD, graduated from Virginia Tech in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and received his commission via Officer Candidate School. He holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.

His sea assignments include engineering division officer tours on USS PHILADELPHIA (SSN-690) and USS MEMPHIS (SSN-691), Navigator/Operations Officer on USS LA JOLLA (SSN-701), and Executive Officer on USS FLORIDA (GOLD) (SSGN-728). Captain Bradley commanded USS ASHEVILLE (SSN-758), where he completed a highly successful Western Pacific Deployment earning a Meritorious Unit Commendation, and a homeport change to Hawaii for an Engineered Overhaul in Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard where his ship earned the Chief of Naval Operations 2014 Safety Award. Throughout his tours, he completed five deployments covering the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic Oceans and helped earn five Battle Efficiency ‘E’ awards.

Ashore, Captain Bradley served as a Tactical Systems instructor at Naval Submarine School; Operations Officer for Commander, Submarine Squadron Seven; Tactical Readiness Evaluation Team Executive Officer for Commander, Submarine Force Pacific Fleet, and Senior Military Advisor for Naval Warfare to the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s Director, Operational Test and Evaluation. During a two-year break in service working in the commercial sector, he served as a Submarine Action Team officer with Naval Reserve Battle Group Staff Unit 306, Washington D.C., and voluntarily recalled to active duty following 9/11.
