Has biography sheet for 6 Dec 1937 lists his permanent rank as ChBosn and his campaign badges as World War, Mexican Service, Navy Cross, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal.
LT. Benson earned the Navy Cross while in command of Patapsco when she was "engaged in the important and hazardous work of clearing the North Sea of mines..."
His casualty sheet lists his periods of enlisted service as 30 Aug 1902 to 29 Dec 1907, 2 Jan 1908 to 1 January 1912, and from 3 Jan 1912 to 9 Feb 1915.
