  • the wooden-hull, side-wheel ferry Somerset built at Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1862
  • Launched, date unknown
  • Acquired by the Navy at Washington, D.C., 4 March 1862
  • Converted for Naval service at New York Navy Yard
  • Commissioned, USS Somerset, 1 April 1862, LT. Earl English in command
  • 13 April Somerset departed New York Key West, FL. with USS Fort Henry to join the East Gulf Blockading Squadron
  • Captured British blockade runner SS Circassian off Cuba, 4 May 1862
  • Somerset after returning to Key West relieved USS Tahoma, 16 May 1862 on blockading duty at Cedar Springs, FL.
  • Somerset engaged in numerous raids on Confederate salt works etc. in and around Cedar Springs until the end of the war
  • Decommissioned at the New York Navy Yard, 26 June 1865 and sold at auction, 12 July 1865,to the Union Ferry Co., of New York, redocumented, 14 February 1866
  • Somerset operated as a ferry boat at New York City until 1914
  • Final Disposition, fate unknown
