The Military Sealift Command's Naval Fleet Auxiliary Force (NFAF) ships provide fuel, food, ammunition, spare parts and other supplies to U.S. Navy ships at sea. NFAF ships enable the Navy's fleets to remain on station without down time for replenishment. NFAF ships include underway replenishment oilers, combat stores ships, ammunition ships, ocean-going tugs and two hospital ships which are kept in reduced operating status--ready to be activated when needed. All NFAF ships are crewed by civil service mariners.
